REVEREND EDWARD F. WEIST
Reverend Edward Francis Weist “Ned” Age 82. Beloved brother of Jack (deceased), Robert (Kathy), Daniel (deceased) (Linda), Kathleen Readler (Dave), Mary Ann Cowden (Jim), Frank (deceased), and Jim (Laura). Dear uncle of many. Passed away January 6, 2025.
Edward F. Weist was born on 25 July 1942. His parents were the late John and Irene (Cooney). He was educated at St. Christopher Elementary, Rocky River, Rocky River High School, John Carroll University, University Hts., Kent State University, Kent, Borromeo Seminary College, Wickliffe, St. Mary Seminary, Cleveland. On 31 May 1969 in St. Gregory the Great Church, South Euclid, Bishop Clarence G. Issenmann ordained him to the priesthood for the service of the Diocese of Cleveland.
Father Weist's first assignment was as Parochial Vicar of St. Charles Borromeo, Parma. On 27 June 1974 he pursued graduate studies in Canon Law in Rome. On 15 August 1977 Fr. Weist was appointed Vice-Chancellor and Parochial Vicar of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist. In addition to this, he was named Diocesan Archivist on 19 September 1977. On 10 January 1978 Fr. Weist was appointed Chancellor of the Diocese of Cleveland. He was appointed Secretary and Vicar for Clergy and Religious on 15 September 1979. During this assignment he was resident Chaplain at Magnificat effective 2 October 1979 and he served as an ex-officio member of Priests Retirement Board effective 16 November 1979. Fr. Weist also served as a Member of the Cleveland Community Relations Board (1980), he served as Promotor of Justice, Diocese of Cleveland (1980) and he served as Associate Consultor (1980-1983). On 4 November 1982 Fr. Weist was appointed Delegate for Clergy. During this assignment he was also named Co-Delegate for Religious effective 1 August 1984. On 16 January 1986 Fr. Weist was named Pastor of St. Leo the Great, Cleveland. During this assignment he served as Dean, Cleveland Northwest Deanery (1991-1994) and was named Presiding Judge, Inter-diocesan Appeal Court on 1 January 1993. Fr. Weist was transferred on 1 July 1997 to serve Our Lady Help of Christians, Litchfield as a Member of the Pastoral Team. Fr. Weist retired on 25 July 2012. Fr. Weist will be remembered for his kindness, encouraging words, fraternal priestly support, his never-ending supply of puns and stories galore. His love for priesthood and service to the people of God inspired many to deepen their faith.
The wake will begin on Thursday, 9 January 2025 in St. Raphael Church, 525 Dover Center Rd, Bay Village, OH, at 3:00 pm with Vespers and will continue until 7:30 pm. Bishop Edward C. Malesic will preside and Fr. Eric Garris will be the homilist.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, 10 January 2025 in St. Raphael Church at 11:00 am. Bishop Marty Amos will be the main celebrant and Father Dan Schlegel will be the homilist.
