JOHN E. SZAKAL age 81, beloved husband of the late Mary C. (nee Nemchak). Dear father of Kate Berlyoung (Scott) and Tom Szakal (Kelly). Loving grandfather of April and Shelley Berlyoung and Mark and Ryan Szakal. Dear brother of Margaret Szakal, Mary Cristof (deceased), Helen Urban and Lillian Merker. John graduated from St. Margaret of Hungary Elementary School in 1948, Benedictine High School in 1952 and John Carroll University in 1956. He served in the U.S. Army for two years after graduating from college. John worked as a credit union auditor and also as a housing inspector for the city of Cleveland. He was married to his beloved wife, Mary, for over 50 years. John enjoyed spending his free time walking for exercise and working in his garden and was known in Old Brooklyn for his home grown tomatoes, which he willingly shared with his neighbors.
