Happy Anniversary to the Badar's!

Dennis & Nancy Badar are celebrating their 45th Wedding Anniversary…on Easter Day! Since they have attended Mass every year on their anniversary since they were married, they are sad that they cannot be with us to share their joy this year. But they will be ordering out from their favorite restaurant & enjoying a glass of wine together, reminiscing about the good times and looking forward to many more happy times in the future. They have our prayers and our congratulations!

Tuition assistance application deadlines extended for 2020-2021 school year

Although schools are closed due to the coronavirus pandemic and almost every student nationwide is being enriched through some form of distance learning, plans for tuition funding at the state and local levels for the 2020-2021 academic year have been established.

For the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland, three application windows for parents and families seeking tuition assistance and scholarship funding are open. Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the application deadlines were extended to May 30.

The three programs are the Cleveland Scholarship Program and the EdChoice Scholarship Program, and the EdChoice Expansion Scholarship. Each has different criteria, but all provide scholarships (sometimes called "vouchers") to parents to pay tuition of qualifying schools, providing opportunity for students to attend the private school of their family’s choice.

“Our diocese wants to help as many families as possible across Northeast Ohio find a learning environment that supports student growth and formation, and tuition scholarships offered by the state of Ohio help make that a reality,” said Frank O’Linn, diocesan superintendent of Catholic schools.

The Cleveland Scholarship Program is for students in grades K-12 who live within the Cleveland Metropolitan School District’s boundaries.

The EdChoice Scholarship Program provides a list of private schools across the state that accept EdChoice funding. However, public schools to which students would be assigned must be deemed EdChoice eligible.

The EdChoice Expansion Scholarship is available for families whoe household income qualifies as low according to federal guidelines.

Before beginning the EdChoice application, students must enroll and be accepted into the desired Catholic school for the upcoming year.

Deadlines for all three scholarships have been extended to May 30, 2020.

The brief video describes how funding works within the parameters of Ohio's parental school choice scholarship programs. It can be viewed below.

Catholic bishops of Ohio extend suspension of all publicly celebrated Masses/liturgies through May 3rd (at least)

On April 2, Gov. Mike DeWine extended his executive statewide stay-at-home order through May 1 as the coronavirus continues to impact Ohio.

In addition, the Catholic bishops of Ohio extended the temporary suspension of all publicly celebrated Masses/liturgies at least through – and including – Sunday, May 3. The bishops said their move was made “out of deep concern for the common good, as well as the physical and spiritual well-being of all the people of Ohio.”

This means that the bishops are continuing to dispense the Catholic faithful who live in all dioceses of Ohio and all other Catholics currently in the state from the obligation of attending Sunday Mass during this time period.

In a letter released the afternoon of April 2, the bishops said their decision was not taken lightly and that they “recognize the sacrifice we are called to make by being physically distanced from the Holy Eucharist and from one another.”

The letter continued, saying, “Trusting in the graces flowing from the celebration of the passion, death and resurrection of Our Lord, we remain mindful of the hope that does not disappoint. As your bishops, we continue to encourage you to keep holy the Lord’s Day by participating in Sunday Mass by way of televised, livestreamed, or radio broadcast options and making a spiritual communion. Keeping in mind the gift of plenary indulgences offered to us by the Church, we encourage all the faithful to turn to the Church’s treasury of prayer, praying as a family or individually the rosary, divine mercy chaplet, the Liturgy of the Hours and Stations of the Cross, etc.”

The bishops also asked the faithful to join them in praying for all who are suffering from COVIC-19, for all health care workers and first responders and for an easing of the anxiety and tension caused by the pandemic.

The letter was signed by Cincinnati Archbishop Dennis M. Schnurr; Cincinnati Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Binzer; Cleveland Diocesan Administrator Father Donald Oleksiak; Columbus Bishop Robert Brennan; Steubenville Bishop Jeffrey Monforton; Toledo Bishop Daniel Thomas; Youngstown Bishop George Murry, S.J.; Bishop Michael Botean, Romanian Eparchy of Parma; Bishop Bohdan Danylo, Ukrainian Eparchy of St. Josaphat; and Bishop Milan Lach, S.J,, Byzantine Eparchy of Parma.
